The Managing Director of Blackpool Transport has become the latest high-profile figure to be appointed to the board of the organisation responsible for light rail safety.
Jane Cole joins the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board as a non-executive director as it continues to deliver an ambitious programme of activity aimed at further driving down risks to network employees, their customers, and members of the public who come into contact with tramways.
A former winner of the Business Woman of the Year accolade at the Northern Enterprise Vision Awards, and a previous President of the Confederation of Passenger Transport, Jane has led Blackpool Transport since 2014, following 17 years as a business manager at Virgin Trains.
Carl Williams, LRSSB Chief Executive, commented: “With her broad experience, Jane’s appointment further strengthens a board that’s already providing incredible support for our growing team of light rail safety experts.
“While continuing to focus on risk management and mitigation across light rail, they are also stepping up efforts to improve engagement with colleagues from across the sector while driving research into new technology that has the potential to further enhance tramway safety.”
The appointment was confirmed at a board meeting last week, and afterwards, Jane commented: “These are exciting times for the organisation as it builds on its impressive achievements to date, and I’m pleased to be part of an organisation that’s so committed to reducing risks to as low as practically possible.”
The meeting also confirmed that Colin Kerr will continue to serve on the LRSSB board following his retirement as Safety and Projects Manager at Edinburgh Trams.
